All-day school PDF Drucken

The Klosterschule has been an all-day school since 1992. Attentance is compulsory between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., four days a week. On Wednesdays school ends at 2.15 p.m. This is still an exception for grammar schools in Germany. Self-evidently meeting all official educational requirements for German grammar schools, we offer a lot more than is average in Germany. The pupils can choose from a variety of additional courses and activities, during the day and after school. Some courses and activities are compulsory whereas others are optional.

The Rhythm of our School Day

The timetable at our all-day school is consciously divided into phases of intensive learning and relaxation. This division takes the children’s biorhythm into account and leads to less stress, more calmness and altogether more concentration - even during the afternoon. Instruction takes place predominantly in 90-minute blocks. This system allows the integration of phases for independent learning and practice into the course better than the former 45-minute lesson. This approach has the advantage of giving pupils more opportunity to get an in-depth knowledge of new material to foster long-term understanding. This stronger focus on practicing during lessons makes sense especially since the abolishment of homework at our school in 2004.
